Ground shells and weeds

We can't get grit here to give the chickens so I have been grinding down egg shells. Can I also grind down mussel shells to give them for the calcium?

Other question is it ok for them to eat poppy plants. Our garden is normally full of them this time of year but they have been devouring them so we have hardly any left.

We had some rain yesterday and they went crazy eating snails, is this normal?

Hi, - if you're flock free ranges, theres no need for grit. I've never used grit, but my flock is out and about in the garden for 12 hours a day and they have always been fine.
