Ground vs Wire

I mainly used recycled wood to make all my coops. The deck above the pen is constructed with new wood for safety reasons. I'm a redneck as well LOL.

7L Farm nice set up. What are the dimensions of your flight pen? Hoping to get Bob's here in the soon time. Maybe some other folks will start to show pics of their set ups too.

Its around ten ft wide & 30 ft long & as you can tell its tall. I suggest to you to build it big my Bob's seem very content in their pen. They love the sand. They love bathing in it. Thats one thing about my farm I really like is all the sand. Here's a chicken who decided it was bath time while ranging.

I am a fan of the "ground raised" quail. Gives them the freedom of being closest to natural living. I have kept Bob's for 5 years and have never had any trouble with worms or disease, however to avoid these things you need to keep the aviary dry, drier, driest! I keep mine bedded in grass hay and change it when needed. As said in another post here, quail won't sleep, eat or live in their own poo and are really clean critters. I only just this year got them started with a regular worming schedule!

(I am a believer that if they are showing no signs of needed wormed than it shouldn't be done.) I have 31 Bobs ranging from 1 1/2 years to 5 years old. All healthy and even the older girls still laying, although they are REALLY slowing down on the laying and I am thinking they may not lay next year. I have 3 aviaries, a 10'x10', a 10'x20' and a 10'x30'. The 20' and the 30' look very similar to 7LFarms aviary. My 10'x10' is winterized and now that breeding season is over, they are all living in these quarters....

They have access to the greenhouse thru this pop door where I have put together several rabbit hutches and they use this area as their winter sleeping quarters....

Here are a few of them taking a bath together after the long summer separation...

In the center I have a big brush pile that they can hang out in...

Nice set up also 7LFarm...Your Bob's always look happy in their aviary. They look nice a healthy too! You and I have that arid dry territory which works excellent for ground raised quail. I wouldn't keep quail any other way. Great set up.

Bfrancis I love the look of the frame and (I assume) stain color. It would be a great looking duck or pheasant aviary. I love the way bobs look hanging out in a brush pile. I probably won't keep my cots on the ground but, if I ever get back to bobs, that will almost be a given.
