Groundhog Day!! February 2, 2009

Judging from all the sunshine today, I think he'll see his shadow tomorrow morning and we'll have 6 more weeks of winter.

they grab the poor guy out of his den. Hold him up. Make a "declaration" and stick him back in the den.

Really not much to see. Kinda mean to do to the poor ground hog.
And whether he sees his shadow or not.. it's still 6 weeks til spring.

Spring doesnt start until the warm weather stays for more than two weeks at a time. Doesnt matter what the calender, or a ground hog say.

Please little groundhog, see your shadow. We need cooler weather longer!!!!

Down here it's Rudy the Rattler that they wait to see if he sees his shadow.

Here's Phil's prediction for everyone:

Phil Says "Six More Weeks of Winter!"

Phil's official forecast as read February 2nd, 2009 at sunrise at Gobbler's Knob:

Hear Ye Hear Ye
On Gobbler's Knob this glorious Groundhog Day, February 2nd, 2009

Punxsutawney Phil, Seer of Seers, Prognosticator of all Prognosticators

Awoke to the call of President Bill Cooper

And greeted his handlers, Ben Hughes and John Griffiths

After casting a joyful eye towards thousands of his faithful followers,

Phil proclaimed that his beloved Pittsburgh Steelers were World Champions one more time

And a bright sky above me

Showed my shadow beside me.

So 6 more weeks of winter it will be.

My daughter's birthday is on Groundhog's day so it's always been special to me, also. She turns 14 today and I STILL buy groundhog stuff when I can find it(just bought the Groundhog Webkinz yesterday). Now that she is older, she kinda gives me the eye roll when I buy groundhog "things", but she secretly likes it, too.

That is sweet you still get her groundhog things for her birthday. Makes her day extra special then having a birthday say in a month where nothing special happens like mine in August

lol!
She will always have that for memories!

Something funny that happened yesterday...me and my daughter were out shopping and when I opened the trunk, I found a groundhog beanie baby that I had gotten her several years ago and I pulled it out and said, Awwww, do you remember when I got that for your?
Her reaction-"MOM, put that back before someone sees you!" as she yanks it out of my hand and in a horrified manner, throws it back in the trunk. I was laughing so hard I was about crying. Parents are just sooooo embarrassing!! (and I LOVE it!)

i like to watch the Herons swoop down and eat the ground hogs.
they are nasty, sit right up and look you in the eye and chatter!

ick. Phil can just get back in his little house!
