Groundhogs?

What worries me is that they will see the chickens as some kind of threat. Groundhogs can be dangerous if threatened, Ive seen it. They will hiss, whistle and bite.
Thanks...hopefully I can get rid of them before they ever wake up.

I believe groundhogs are herbivores. So your chickens should be safe in that way. However, they are nasty and carry parasites and that could infect your flock. The burrows they dig allow for possums and other critters to find ways to get into your run.

We have been fighting them since we moved to this part of Virginia so I feel your pain. They stay away from the chicken barns and tend to hang out in the large animal barn and near my garden. They can eat a garden down in no time flat.

I would pour quick crete down the holes and seal them while it is cold and they are sleeping. Mark them so you won't forget where the big hunks of crete are in the ground.

Somewhere, in the history of this planet there is probably an instance of a groundhog attacking a chicken.

Statistically speaking, I'd say your chickens are in much more danger from a lightning strike than a groundhog.

I am absolutely positive that no chickens will be harmed by hissing and whistling.
