Grow Your Own Fresh Greens All Year.

Normal house temps will do. Some people will place them above their fridge as the motor for the fridge will give off some extra warmth that will likely aid in getting germination going.

I agree, fantastic idea and post, thanks for sharing! My wife sprouts things all the time and I never thought to give it to the peeps. I will definitely do that this time around with my own batch.

Thanks again, such a great idea.

Our house tends to cool, even with heat on in the winter months, my kitchen is not heated unless I turn on the oven. I will put them on top of the fridge though. Now I just have to find seeds to do this with.

Where do you get seed and what kinds?

Some I've seen my wife use:
Sunflower
Chia seeds (as in chia pet)
Alfalfa
Beans

If you do bean sprouts, do the birds get the beans? I have read that they should not eat raw beans and I know the bean is usually left.

Does she get seeds just in packets of seeds or does she buy like at a co-op (ie: Southern States, Tractor Supply)?

I sprout oats, just buy a 50lb bag at the feed store for about $10. They also have wheat, legumes, corn (and many others) just make sure you are getting the whole seed, not crimped, rolled, husked, chopped etc....

Not sure about the beans. We eat them, but if you sprout them long enough, the bean itself will shrivel as the plant takes what it needs.

She buys the seeds from Sprouts Market. It's like a easier-going version of whole foods, and without the extreme prices. O can get these seeds from any health food store, I'm sure. Vitamin Cottage is another place, but that may be a Colorado only store.
