Hi
frow.gif

I just wanted to share my success at growing Avocado from the stones. It is so rewarding to see the results.

This is Arnie when he struck back in September 2012:

This is Danny when he struck in September 2013:

And this is the pair of them today. Danny got repotted yesterday and popped him next to his bigger brother:

Hey! I love happy posts!
I have never named mine. I think I will start naming them!
I must go purchase an avocado for the seed.

I have a persimmon tree awaiting planting.
I think I shall name him/her Doug.
I have to dig Doug a hole.

Thank you

Rumour has it that the chances of ever getting any fruit is very slim because of the genetics of shop bought Avocados but I really do not mind. If there is any chance that they do fruit, I have a few years to wait yet

It is a nice feeling to be lucky enough to have them strike and I think they are nice plants/trees to look at.

Good luck with your stone, I hope it strikes for you.

Tee hee 3goodeggs .. I have quite a few plants around the place and they do not have names.

I think the fact that Avocados are a bit tricky and take time to strike and grow makes them that little bit more special for me and therefore, they need names. Also, I am silly enough to talk to them when I change their water as stones, so I need to call them something :)

As you have to dig a hole, Digby might be a good name

Great job! I've tried to start avocados from the stone, but all they ever grew was mold

Thank you howfunkyisurchicken :)

I am sorry to hear that. I have also had a couple of duds that went mouldy but I persevered.

I have heard that if you strategically place a stone in compost (so that you can find it again) and leave it there, checking on it occasionally, the roots will strike and then you can take it out and pop it in the water. Apparently, that gives it a head start and deters the mould issue. I might have to try that myself :)
