Growing fodder for chickens

So far I have sprouted buckwheat, sunflower seeds and wheat. The Wheat is the only one that I have gotten to the green stage, but it was the least appreciated. So today I pulled some apart and chopped it up into more beak sized pieces, added some sprout sized buckwheat and some layer pellets. Everyone was able to find something they enjoyed. And the lower echelon was able to scarf the parts that had been flung. Today was a success.

I've been told that sprouts/fodder have a chance for ecoli because they have the perfect environment( moist and warm). Can anyone calm my fears? Is this like saying that you can get ecoli from raw milk? I have pigs, chickens and fodder in the same room, does that effect anything? If you search for "ecoli sprouting seeds" on google it's not very comforting. Any knowledge at all will help.

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Yeah ... it is an issue ... enough so that the human sprouting industry has been "changing." For me it is difficult to understand the statistics and risks about things like sprouts and raw milk because I feel as though there is a lot of false information and propaganda on both sides of the issue.

I am just learning about fodder and started my first tray of barley a few days ago. Today, I have green shoots!!! In the first 12-24 hour soak, I put a little bit of oxine to kill any bacteria or mold on the grain. Do you think that would help minimize any e coli risk?
