Growing fodder for chickens

I started a batch last week after seeing this thread on the homepage, and I will be feeding it to my chickens tomorrow, I'm so excited, i've got a second batch going that is about 36 hrs behind the first, and I am looking for just the right size containers for my flock of 8 to get a 6 or 7 day rotation going.

Okay, I am so mad right now... I've tried ten times to upload pics of my setup but when I click on the photo to upload, the page reloads instead! :he (SO cannot wait for byc to be tablet-friendly!) Anyway, I bought a cheap wire shoe rack, cake tins to fit and - because I couldn't find right sized tub - pyrex cake pans as a water-catch. Total cost $21 :) i punched holes in the tins with a nail and, because they came in packs of 3, i have one without nails to use under a new batch for the soaking cycle. It's set up in my kitchen but the sprayer doesn't quite reach so i'll be using a watering can or something. If it all goes well, i may eventually go automated.

I started my wheat soaking but have a couple questions please ;). I am going to do very small batches to start with as only have 4 chickens.

What to soak seeds in: a container with holes inside a container without holes with a lid with air holes?

Do you rinse in same container soaking in or is that counter productive?

Any reason can't rinse, soak and grow in one container instead of transporting to a new container for every step?

Sorry if redundant questions already asked in this thread but its a long thread and I didn't come across anyone doing it all in one container (but I might have missed it :( ).

I have a regular bucket with a colander that I purchased from a goodwill shop in top. One fits inside the other, so I soak the seed for 12 hours , lift the colander out
Rinse and then return to the empty bucket. By leaving the grain in the colander the water collects in the bucket below. This system works well if you want to keep it small.

We are going to build a feeder using our old drains for the roof, just need one end and a way to hang it. The girls are a little rough
On their furniture.

My setup is in the spare bedroom a.k.a. project room, and I just water with a pitcher. It has been working for a couple of weeks.

Congratulations, sounds like a nice setup.
