Growing plants without light?

I was watching Bizarre Foods this weekend and they had a segment about a farm raising plants and sprouts in a dark room without light. I found it interesting and was wondering if anyone had any experience with this or knew of any resources on the subject. Thought it would be an interesting experiment with sprouts, microgreeens, and other fast growers. I'm not sure what the results would be.

What you gain in tenderness and mild flavor, you would loose in nutrient.
