I consider myself a rookie still with gardening, even though I've been goofing off with plants since I was a kid. Definitely never went to school for Horticulture, it was all on the fly learning or speaking to people who knew much more about it.

Last season we made this spreadsheet that's posted on my site... https://www.arcadianorchard.com/food and it covers such details as ideal soil Ph, growing conditions, etc by plant variety that we used.

This year, we tore apart the raised bed and built two green houses over the area. We did a total garden overhaul! So no time yet to work up another spread sheet.

Husband has been fired from Potatoes, those are mine this year. 0% yield on all but the sweet potatoes, which had a small yield of about 15 pounds. The cage idea was a terrible one, this year I'm returning to containers. The sweet potatoes came out of containers, but he had filled them with soil and then planted them on top. Plant them low and fill as they grow!

I'll also be doing the herbs. He gets such things as leafy greens and chard, tomatoes, garlic and onions.

I can't wait to watch all these plants grow!!!

Worked in the flower beds by the house yesterday, planted some container herbs and rescued Coral Bells from the clearance rack at Lowe's.

Finally able to do a garden this year and I am very excited. I made 3 raised beds about just under 4’ x 4’ to start with. The lumber was free so that help determine the size plus I wanted to do small hoop/green houses as needed for the weather I may encounter. I’ve been doing tons of research and looking to keep it “simple” to be able to learn and hopefully produce this season.

Great looking greenhouse BTW.

I'm working on the garden this week too. I took the week off to make some changes, which the chickens are not too happy about. This will be my second spring with them, last year I grew very little, I didn't realize how destructive chickens were.

My yard is L-shaped. This is where the chicken coop was. This area gets lots of sun and is close to my neighbors yards. I moved the coop to the shadier side, which I can't grow anything in. I already have 2 8X4' beds and plan to put up 4 more in this area. Here are the girls this morning, looking for goodies.

Here is another photo going to the left of the yard:

Here are my strawberry patches to the right, I added another 4X4 bed along it. Last year they ate or pecked every strawberry that even thought about growing. I also have 2 small pear trees and a blackberry patch along the fence there.

This is where I plan on putting up a small fence to keep the girls in their own area while I grow stuff. The other pear tree will offer them shade in the summer. The coop is now next to en empty lot next door. There is a huge oak tree that offers lots of shade to this side of my yard.

I plan to grow strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, blueberries, zukes, green beans, beets, lettuce, cabbage, carrots, chard. We shall see how it goes....
