Well field corn yields higher, is easier to harvest, etc. Your livestock don't care about the extra sugar in corn like humans do for sweet corn since most can't even taste it with their palates.

Field corn is better for feed and is normally dried before harvesting

Correct. Although, we let our piggies into the corn patch when it's ripe to our standards. At that stage, they eat the stover as well as the corn. I think they get more out of it that way.

Oh and they harvest it themselves. :0
