Does anyone know what this is? She shakes her head as if she tries to shake it off. I was going to try to clip it thinking it might be a piece of dead comb but she screamed so I’m thinking it’s something else. Shes 5 months old. Please help

What a sweet little girl she is!

I agree, it does look like part of the comb is dying, perhaps it got pinched by a rooster or hen or she got it hung on something like fencing and tore it.

It also looks like she may have some slight bruising near the eye too.

Good photos! Thank you for well lit photos!

OK looking at it from above, the "end" is likely dead or dying, at the base, it looks like the scab is cracking some.

Oooof, hard to say what to do. If she were mine, I'd probably trim the heaviest part so it's not so floppy and bothering her, then make sure to clean the base and coat it with a dab of triple antibiotic ointment. Watch to see if the others pick at her comb, sometimes shiny ointment is an attractant. If so, cage her within the run/coop.

IF that is cracked and a bit oozy, gunky looking at the base, clean with Povidone Iodine or Chlorhexidine.

Now. You could just leave the heavy part and treat the base if it's cracked. Dead/dying tissue will generally shrivel up and fall of on it's own, especially something like a comb. My main concern is what it looks like right at the base.

Sorry to ramble, I'm looking at your photos and thoughts keep coming🫣

I agree that I would probably use some antibiotic ointment or a bit a Betadine and let it dry up and shrivel. Vicks salve might be good, since the menthol in it tends to help with pain and itching. If she continues to shake head to the point of making it bleed, then I might stick her inside a dog crate with food and water so the others don’t peck at the blood and hurt her more.
