My female Pekin has been limping for awhile and I see she has some sort of growth on the bottom of her foot and it has not gone away.

I can't really afford an expensive surgery but luckily our vets here out in the country are pretty cheap.

My female mallard had her throat cut pretty bad and she was bleeding like a pig. Grabbed her up and the vet had this staple style stitcher and in 5 seconds done. Pretty amazing and the charge was even better - $10.00.

But this lump/growth would probable need what, being put under or at minimum a shot to the foot to deaden the nerves.

Has anyone here ever had to have a vet cut out a growth from a ducks foot? Any experiences someone can share? Thanks.

I'm thinking your duck has bumble foot, which needs surgery, but its simple enough for you to do your self. There are a few different threads on here that show you how to perform the surgery yourself. Just look it up, but I don't think it will cost very much if you go to the vet. I'm glad you ave local cheap vets near you, that is a good advantage for your birds!! Good luck!

What does it look like? Pics would be helpful. If it is bumblefoot you can try soaking in dilute Chlorhexidine... I soaked an old dish towel and sat with the duck's foot on it for as long as he would tolerate twice a day. Try to keep her off hard ground and in the water as much as possible. My duck recovered without invasive surgery, but we caught it early.

Another non-invasive method is soaking with Epsom salts compress three times a day followed with a slathering of triple antibiotic. Best to keep the duck confined to a smaller, very clean area (I know they poop, but we can provide them with pretty nice accommodations for sick bay when we need to) with plenty of fresh water and nutritious food.

Add poultry vitamins with electrolytes and probiotics to the water twice a week to boost the immune system.

If you can work in a lukewarm bath deep enough to float in at least once a day, you will take weight off the foot, increase circulation and strength and likely boost the immune system.

Is the foot or leg warmer than the other one?

How long ago did you notice this?
