i am worried about my Silkie rooster “Elvis”. I rescued him about a year ago. He’s probably a few years old. He’s free range during the day and cooped at night. There are 11 hens around him. They are all in good health.

I’ve noticed a change in his behavior. He used to crow. He’s not anymore. He’s sleeping on the job A LOT. I can walk up to him without him stirring and pick him up. Once he realizes I’ve grabbed him he’ll react. I’m actually surprised he hasn’t been taken by any predators as he’s literally a sitting duck.

I picked him up a few days ago and checked him for any issues. He has a massive growth under his wing. It’s not solid but it’s not squishy either. It has a funky gray-green color. I’m realistic it might be cancerous. He’s eating fine and still makes a lot of noise like he’s fine.

I just wanted someone to look at it and give me a second opinion. If it’s the worse case scenario I’ll let him live the best quality life he can until he makes it clear he’s ready to give up the fight.

He’s a sweet little thing too.

From Google:

Penicillin for chickens
Penicillin, Tylan 50, and Baytril are commonly given to chickens. Probably baytril or penicillin would be better for a leg infection than Tylan which is more of a respiratory drug. Oral antibiotics would be penicillin, erythromycin, tetracycline, and many others.

ETA- I'm really sorry regardless of what's wrong :hugsSome vets will give advice on the phone but I think it wouldn't hurt to investigate it a little more; soak with a rag steeped in Epsom salt water for 10 minute intervals and see if weeps or opens at all? If you see signs of infection or blistering that would help with possible next steps in treating it.
