grr ... chickens roosting in the nest boxes

My rooster has decided he likes sleeping in the next box. The girls sleep on the roosts. Couldn't figure out why there was so much poop in the box in the mornings. Started staking it out after they went to bed. Tried pulling him out and putting him on the roost for a week. That didn't help. Guess I'll start blocking it off at night. Have no idea why he stared doing this!

I just went through the same problem a few weeks ago.
I covered the nest boxes with cardboard at night for one week. They got out of the habit and now nest on the roost rather than in the nest boxes. No more poo in the nest boxes. It worked for me.

I'm going to block them off starting tomorrow. I thought one of the hens was sleeping in the box. Was surprised to find my big rooster curled up in there and the girls on the roosts!

Today my poopiest egg was in the box with no poo. So I guess making sure they don't roost in there won't help my poopy egg issues. Dang chickens.
