Part of the "Heinz 57" makeup of my ancestry is Scottish..............and I've been accused of being able to rub two pennies together in my pocket until they start a fire!

So each morning and evening when I feed and water my 3 week old chicks, it breaks my heart to throw away the mixture of powder and crumbles at the bottom of the feeder. Someone on the forum mentioned they'd made gruel out of it and their chickens loved it.

NEWS FLASH! I've started mixing the gruel when I do the change-out morning and evening and the majority of my chicks run to the gruel bowl before heading for the dry crumbles. They gobble it down as if it were prime rib. (just a human comparison)

So if you haven't tried it already, give it a shot. Might be a neat treat for your chickens.

brilliant. Gonna try this because the trough on my big gravity feeder is full of the dust and small bits and I hate to waste it. Also part scottish ;)
