grumpy/picky layer

What sort? American B.Aus.Orps or Australian ones? Had some confusion recently because what some Americans call B.A.Orps we call Langshans, and what we call B.A.Orps they call Langshans. :/ I think I will go with the Aussie definition there since the breed was developed in Australia, I'm Aussie, etc, just to make it simpler for myself, but I guess I'll have to ask this question about type every time this subject crops up.

The B.A.Orp influence is phenotypically strong in my remaining mongrels... Lost the best due to various issues... But I actively weeded out most due to leucosis. The B.A.Orps I got had slow and late onset leucosis and it was so hereditary that I culled quite aggressively to get rid of it, as much as some of those birds were otherwise decent or even family pets. Shame.

Guess it's probably a moot point anyway, it becomes a 'they say/we say' sort of pointless squabble, lol.

May be enough time to break her of the habit. Gets a bit pointless feeding a hen who destroys the end results of the feeding of both herself and others, lol...

Best wishes.

i'm not a big fan of culling

Fair enough, I do understand that, but I found there weren't many other options when it comes to some serious issues. I'm not actually a big fan of culling myself but I'm also not a fan of muddling along in a pointless, futureless mess which can be solved just by removing one animal.

Culling can mean rehoming, too, or caging separately, doesn't have to mean killing. In this case egg eating is not a truly serious issue, though it's darn inconvenient; if an animal is violent to others that's a killing-culling offense, not a culling-rehoming offense, in my book anyway. I've done my years of trying to rehab them, almost none are worth the effort.

Best wishes.
