I hope you enjoy being a BYC member. There are lots of friendly and very helpful folks here so not only is it overflowing with useful information it is also a great place to make friends and have some fun.

BYC has Topic of the Week articles which I have found to be a great resource and a one stop shop for questions which may have already been discussed within the BYC membership group.

If you would like to share Pictures and Stories of your flock, you have come to the right place. BYC’ers never tire of these and do not back away slowly or commence eye rolling when the photo album or home videos come out ;)

Began my "new hobby career" back in the summer of 2017 - I started with 7 girls... 2 passed away about 3 months later... Brahma Mama was 7, so I believe she may have passed of old age... I cried - She was so sweet... my other just dropped at the water feeder... we think she might have choked! I cried....
I have 2 Speckled Sussex (Hussie and Sussie), 1 RI (RI), 1 totally white girl (Leghorn) which I think is what she is... and another one that I don't know what type... (Bossy) I have just acquired 2 more girls... another RI (Junie) and ISA Brown (Shoonie)....
It's been a little tough these last few days... getting that pecking stuff out of the way, but they seem to be adjusting... I am learning quite a bit from this website... I'm such a newbie...
But, I will get better - I love my girls... It is so therapeutic for me... Never thought I would be a chicken mama, but here I am loving it!!!!
We have a mouser cat that stays outside... she seems to be the guard... a wonderful dog name Roxy... My coop will hold about 12 girls... I do not have a rooster...
So glad you joined! So sorry to hear about your brahma's loss! I have brahmas and I would be so sad if one of them had a loss, they are so sweet!! I had a really bossy red sex link that was boss over my australorp and delaware. She was never mean to my australorp but she was a real featherpicker to my Delaware since she was a lot smaller. My Delaware ended up going over her in the pecking order since she decided to fight her one day and ended up winning it was a pretty tough war. I feel happy for the Delaware now. She is boss over my sex link and now she makes the rules if she can share the roosting bar or not. Oh, and again,:welcome.:woot
