someone came to my house yesterday to pick up something ... she said our chickens scared her! so she didn't come in to pick the thing up ... (she also couldn't find the front gate ...)

sigh.

we have 5 hens: cochin (who happens to be broody, so she wasn't even out), bantam silkie something, barred rock who squats whenever you get too close, black sex link who is the most friendly but probably wouldn't really walk up to a stranger, and a red something who is so freaked out by humans that she won't even come near ME.

ooooo, so scary.

we live in a very urban neighborhood, and our chickens like to hang out under the bushes in our front yard when they aren't under the house. we have a picket fence, that they can squeeze through, but they don't.

they sure look all terrifying and stuff in the pics...eating and preening themselves...and sleeping on the roosts. Terrifying indeed. (sarcasm) LOL. I guess people that don't haeve any just don't know how to approach or interact, I supopse that's scary with any animal you are unfamiliar with.

There appears to be some sort of sub-species of human that has appeared on the planet. It is a successful organism, and is reproducing rapidly. However, there is some concern that it is incapable of even feeding itself, should the need arise, and any change in it's environment could threaten it with extinction. Support your government's efforts to raise taxes and care for this precious creature before it disappears!

Some people have weird phobias. I have a friend who is afraid of chickens, horses, and beagles. Yes...only beagles, he is fine with all other dogs...but if it looks remotely like a beagle he will not get out of the car.

I rescued a hound-mix two years ago, when she was smaller she looked like a beagle and he was terrified of her...now that she is 70lbs and clearly looks like a hound, he is fine around her.

honestly, I didn't get the impression it was a phobia of chickens - just a city-girl's reaction to CHICKENS !!

OMG !!! scary!!!

actually, even my husband is a little nervous around chickens - he's afraid they will peck him. we've had them since February ... maybe someday he'll get over that. I just laugh at him.

And my daughters have no fear at all, thankfully.

My son is scared to death of chickens. The AI/Poll/Typ testers came out, and as I handed them one of my Roo's and turned around to get another, they had handed the Roo to my son (I did not realize that they had done that), I turned around as he was pecked, he looked like the Tin Man, FROZEN stiff, and a death grip on my Roo, don't know who's eyes were bulged the most. Poor kid, was only in there to help me block the opening.

Some people are just scared of different things.

Maybe you could meet her somewhere to pick up what she needed.

We had friends over last weekend and the wife was scared of chickens b/c of negative experiences as a child on her grandparents' chicken farm. After being around our super docile girls for 20 minutes, she was calmed down and fine (though not excited to be near chooks).
