guard chickens

Well, next time--lock up the chickens and draw her a map so the poor thing can find the front gate.... OR maybe it's best if she doesn't find it!!!

I could see being afraid of a great big-frothing-at-the-mouth-barking-its-head-off dog! But a CHICKEN!?!?!

Oh well, I suppose I shouldn't laugh. I'm terrified of yellow jacket and bald faced hornets!

I can't tell you the amount of people I run into that are afraid of chickens. We have horses and a cockateil and love the outside birds so last year we started with chickens.

Honestly I would say 2 in 8 of the people I converse with ARE AFRAID of chickens, or birds of all kinds. I totally don't get it.

A friend of mine has a farm and would like to get some chickens but she has been afraid of them. When she was a little girl and as she grew up, her father would tell her that chickens were evil and if you got to close they would scratch your eyes out. For the past few months she has been stopping by to see my chickens and me interacting with them and has discovered that chickens aren't evil. I think she wants 5 or 6. Now she has to persuade her husband who think all chicken stink. My friend has started brining her husband over to see my birds. She has made the comment that my birds don't stink. I told her chickens don't have to be stinky.

Amen to that!! For the longest time I was reluctant to get chickens after seeing how my sister's coop looked all the time. Then it dawned on me. It wasn't the birds that were being stinky...it was the deplorable conditions that my sister kept her coop. Evil woman! She should be prohibited from keeping any animals!

I, the neatness freak that I am, clean the coop every four to six weeks in the summer months and about every two to three weeks in the winter as the girls spend so much time inside due to the cold. I hate a dirty coop. And I sure as heck am not going to ask my girls to live in it like that either! I know...I know...I really need to get a life!
