Guess hen or roo while I wait for DNA results!

I recently hatched a Harry Potter themed flock of 9 chicks and am waiting for the gender test results to come in this week.

While I wait, I thought it would be fun to get people’s guesses. Chicks are 11-12 days old.

#3-6 are Black copper Marans

#7-12 are Olive eggers

I have my suspicions based on behavior, but wanted to see if any of you had guesses based on appearance, even though it’s certainly too early to know for sure. But if you have a hunch, please share it! I’ll update with the test results as soon as I get them.

How does the DNA testing work? Do you send in feather samples or something? Do they send bands to tag the chicks so you know which sample is whose?

How does the DNA testing work? Do you send in feather samples or something? Do they send bands to tag the chicks so you know which sample is whose?

I sent in tiny blood drops (from clipping a nail to the quick, then dabbing the nail on a piece of paper). Each paper was labeled with a number. At home, I have a chart with the numbers matching up to leg band colors!

Shoot, I just realized I accidentally put a photo of #10 pink band on #12 purple band’s slide (top right on the last slide is actually #10)
