and that's FIGS! Our tree is overloaded right now, so I thought I'd give some to my chickens. darn, it took me 10 minutes to cut those things up and they devoured them in 15 seconds!

Fresh Figs are an exotic, sweet, juicy delight. You see them in most grocery stores--but they are seasonal, so only during a few months of the year. THey look like a fat light green tear drop. The outside flesh is firm, the inside is heaven. Dried figs are brown and almost as good.


My girls came running tonight for the grubs I pulled out of the garden soil. Yum yum!

Oh I am so glad to hear this! I just filled a big basket with figs yesterday and wondered if they were safe for the chickens. Can't wait to try them out! (After I make fig preserves, my hubby's fave).

I got them a watermelon yesterday. Guess I didn't read the lables closely, 'cos boy, was I surprised to cut it open and find it was YELLOW! I didn't know there were yellow watermelons! After a few suspicious looks, my chicks chowed down on that too. I've got some fruit lovers here. Good thing, as they still turn their beaks up at sunflower seeds.

hey BarefootMom...I've never seen them at grocery stores here either, but they sell the trees at all the nurseries - even Home Depot. They grow all over around here, I'm sure theyd do great in Missouri. Yum...fig jam
