Guess the Breed--Horse!

Quote:
guess it's a matter of technical usage vs. common usage. I trained with a very competitive trainer in SoCal and he always called the coldblood/hotblood crosses warmbloods. not the same as a specific warmblood breed, but nonetheless, warmbloods. pretty much heard the term useed that way throughout SoCal. in general if the horse was a specific warmblood breed, they were called by the breed name. if they were a cold/hot cross, they were just called warmbloods.

I have been out there and never heard the term used that way. Generally, only the people selling the draft crosses (or buying them) call them warmbloods. It depends on who you are hanging around with - but calling a cross bred or a part bred a warmblood isn't correct usage - it's a marketing gimmick to make them sound more expensive.

This and this. Plus its more likely to be TBXDRAFT x TB to preform and act like a warmblood. First gen draft cross's can still be super bulky and heavy, enough so that very high and very fast jumping and sports are beyond them.

well I guess you just have to take that horse by horse.
my trainer had a TBxdraft, don't know what draft because that wasn't my interest at the time, and I watched him jumping her 5.5 stadium and field /cross country. watched them go clear and place in the numbers at some major events in Palm Springs against professional competition in her first year showing. he called the mare a warmblood. as he did with his other crosses.

just saying the guy was a pro, a seriously competitive rider/trainer, and that's what he called them.
FWIW, I don't really care much one way or the other, just saying that's how it was used where I was.

They are both Paso Finos!

The pinto mare was one of the broodmares I worked with at the farm a while back, I was going to buy her back then but life changed my mind.

The grey stallion is the sire of my gelding

I have LOTS more Paso pictures

But I don't suppose I can make you guess the same breed more than twice
