The history on the Rocky Mountain Horse as told by some of the old timers. The story has that a family from back east moved out west by wagontrain. They went bust and had to move back east to family. They were driving a team and the mare had a colt by her side. When they got to Eastern Kentucky they were flat broke and traded the stud colt for supplies. The colt was an unusual color he was Chocolate with a Flaxen mane and tail and gaited. The locals bred their saddle mares to him. He produced both good gait and the Chocolate/Flaxen color. He was also well known for his good temperment and speed. The men of the area would travel a good distance to breed to the Rocky Mountain Horse as he became known, because he came from the Rocky Mountains in the West.

The RMHORSES are still used by some of the old timers to plow and work the mountianside fields to this day. The RMH stands between 14.2 and 16.0 hands and must be certified by 3 examiner's for correctness of gait, temperment and confirmation in order to be certified to breed or be shown. We are one of the only breeds that still have to be examined before being shown or bred.

I will try just about anything with my five RMHORSES, horsecamp, trailride, drive, show saddleseat, western, work cows(yes they can), I am looking for a small 1 horse plow now for my garden. They are great parade mounts. And satisfy my NEED FOR SPEED!!!!!

About Sapphire, OVER MY DEAD BODY!!!! LOL She is the last of a breeding program that I had with my best friend who passed away unexpectedly. She was the ONLY horse that she would NEVER PRICE.... All she would say when someone would ask is...MINE, MINE, MINE..... Then would tell them she would sell me, her best friend first......So she will be the last horse I ever have if all of them have to go. Her half brother is the Chocolate/ Chocolate in the other post. He is my Quincy Boy...

Will have to tell you about my first time riding a Rocky.... It was WOW!!!!!

I had no idea that any breed in America had to go through an approval process, thought that was only in Europe--thanks for enlightening me on this breed.

Wow, I love the stories. That's a cool way they came about.

Sapphire has a nice story behind her too. I don't blame you at all for not selling her.
