GUESS THE BREED OF CHICKEN

Oh, oops! I was responding to the one on the last page. Anyways, your birds look like Red Jungle Fowl, which are good birds to have. Red Jungle Fowl is one of the few "wild" chicken lines left. They are EXCELLENT foragers and will probably have a wild like nature. Even though they have a small size, they lay 250-300 eggs a year, which is as many eggs as the popular Rhode Island Red and more than a Plymouth Rock. I would expect that Red Jungle Fowls would not be very friendly because they are wild. I'm not sure if they'd go broody or not, but since they are wild, I would guess that they would.

Any breed of chicken can be tamed. Some are just way harder than others, like with Silkies or d'Uccles, it takes almost no effort. With Leghorns or Minorcas, it takes A LOT of work. I'm just taking a guess that they would be hard to tame. I'm sure if you put a lot of effort into it they would become tame

Ok, that's good then. Thank you for the info. Searched for Jungle Fowl on the internet, and it looks as though they have white ear lobes...they could be an Old English Game mix?

I'm glad that you noticed that. The rooster in the picture may not be a Red Jungle Fowl. The hen in the picture does look like she has a white earlobe though. The rooster could be a Jungle Fowl mix or Old English Game mix. However, it could be a different breed, because I am a bit unfamiliar with common breeds in South Africa. Why? I'm on the other side of the world

Haha! Don't really mind what breed they are anyway. They're just pets, and knowing me, when they grow up and hatch chicks of their own, I'll probably end up keeping most of them!!

How chicken math works with me:

When I have several chickens and I say, "I NEED more chickens!"
I get a bunch more chickens.
I have tons of chickens.
Then I say, "I NEED to get rid of some chickens."
I get rid of some of my chickens.
Then I have several chickens and I say, "I NEED more chickens!"
And the cycle continues XD
