Guess the breed

I read about a scientific study done decades ago where they crossed two purebred dogs of different breeds and then bred two of the progeny to one another. It included photographs and it was amazing to see how the puppies looked so different from the starting breeds standards and from one another. Looking at those puppies you would have never guessed that only 2 breeds made up their genetic profile. I guess because the difference between breeds is so small?

I know this was posted a while back, but I did not see anyone comment on it. And...
This is exactly true.

When Labradoodles came into being it was said that to be considered a true Labradoodle (they started in Australia) it had to go four generations. Otherwise the litter could come out looking like anything. Poodle, Lab, one temperament over another that they were going for...

And then came the designer breeds. Where people take anything and breed it to another anything and attach a fancy name to it.
Surprisingly, still waiting to see the Bulldoodle, or Staffiedoodle :lau
But every few months I hear of another "doodle". As well as the something-chon...

But yes, there would be no reason that all of a first generation breeding would come out looking anything like either of their parents. But the ones that do are kept and the next generation bred and the next and next thing you know the AKC recognizes it 80 years later ;)
Or, if you are a BYB you simply sell all the pups for $1200 and no papers and call it a widgetdoodle :he
