Behind every word lurks a story, an etymology. Medicine Hat was being used to describe the markings on the horse. There are uncountless words from world history that take on a descriptive meaning over the years.

I understand what you were trying to describe...I just don't understand why anyone is trying to change the meaning of a historically based term to something completely different that has nothing to do with the original source of the term...it seems disprespectful to the source of the term.

According to American Paint Horse Association, she is an Overo, which are the same markings as her mother. Her sire , while appearing solid and he is registered as such with APHA, carries the Overo Gene. Since she will be registered with APHA that is all that matters in this situation. A Medicine Hat (in accordance with APHA) refers to the color on top of the head and mostly white, generally horses with Medicine hats are Toveros, being they carry both Overo and Tobiano markings. Tobianos have white that crosses the back at some point. Later today I will post pics of all 3 (Tobiano, Overo and Tovero) so that everyone can see and understand the differences.

I got the eggs today from Lockedhearts for guessing the foaling date! How is the baby doing? Any new pictures?
