Congrats!!! Finally huh??!?

Ok, how old are they...mine turned 17 weeks this past sunday...buff orps...anxiously awaiting our first egg too!

Oh YEAHHH,,,2 of mine laid for the first time today too....YEAH us. Isn't it exciting? I came tearing into the house shouting to my husband "look what I got, look what I got"

Congratulations to all of you on your first eggs! I don't think I have ever posted here, but I have read for awhile! I got a new batch of partially grown pullets in June. One of my EEs layed her first egg last Wednesday and has layed 5 since. Got a second EE laying yesterday & today My RIR finally did too, but she layed her egg in the run. I have 3 EEs & an EE rooster, 2 RIRs (all 20 weeks old), 2 Buff Orps (19 weeks ) and 3 Barred Rocks that have awhile to go, as they are only 14 weeks. I have owned chickens for 15 years and I still get so excited for my first egg. No one here can relate! I just used up my eggs from the girls I sold in June about 2 weeks ago, so I am so happy! I had to buy 2 dozen store eggs and YUCK!

I found a brown egg today...or terracotta color so that is 3!. I'm afraid they won't start laying in the house. Just random places in the yard. I put fake eggs in the nests and on the floor of the hen house. I put lots of hay in it. They love to scratch around.

I am one of the lucky layers of Aug 6th!

I had my flock taken out by a family of coon's and bought 4 hens at the auction thinking they were about 3 months old judging by size. I was pretty close, but I don't know exactly how old they are.

They are barnyard mix, but there are 3 buff's and 1 red.

I also have 1 buff orp chick about 3 months old now. Got her at a day old. The rest of her brood mates were also eaten by the coons. (I might have a problem there).

The good news though - I have 1 laying eggs (2 so far) and 3 more who should start this month & one to follow after that!

I am so glad to be back into eggs.
