Guess what? New pictures of my champions!!!!!

[4 Love of Baby Chickens]

On tuesday I entered 4 of my chickens into the fair for the Poultry Judging at the fair. Well the Judging happened this afternoon and.....................................................................................................

-drum roll please-

Rusty got 1st place out of all the Rhode Island Red roosters and Marshmellow got 1st AND Grand Champion of ALL the hens entered!!!!! There are over 50 hens in the Chicken Coop!!!!!!

I'm just SO happy!!!!!!

All together they won $15.00 dollars!!!!! Of course I'm only going to get $6.50 of that because I'm buying a nice Rhode Island Red pullet from a friend that won 2nd place. She's only 4 1/2 or 5 months old. So she'll probably start laying in a couple months.

I'll post pictures very soon of my champions and of some of the other chickens tomorrow night or on friday morning.

I am just SO happy!!!!!

When I walked into the coop my RIR rooster Rusty was in a cage to the left of the door and I could see that he had a 1st place ribbon right away. I said, "Good job big boy". That's my nickname for him.

Then as I headed towards the area where Marshmellow and Bunty were I took a look at my BR hen Chili. She didn't win a ribbon but that's okay. She didn't have as good of barring as some of the other BR's. But she's a great mother so I definally going to keep her.

When I was passing the other cages to head down to Bunty and Marshmellow was I was stopped by the judges. They asked me, "Is that your hen behind you"? I turned around and saw Marshmellow contently pecking and scratching in a cage with a 1st place AND a Grand Champion ribbon tied to her cage!!!!!

I was like, "What?! Marshmellow is that you"?

I felt like I was going to faint. The judges started grinning knowing how suprised I was. I asked what the Grand Champion ribbon meant. One of the judges showed me that it shows that out of all the hens entered my EE hen was the VERY best hen of them all.

Now I'm hoping that Marshmellow won't turn her beak up at Rusty considering he ONLY got a first place ribbon.
