Guess who was stealing eggs!

I just thank God I'm not a person like this NUT.

I think I would ring that area with a high voltage electric fence. And place a few boulders in the area to prevent the tree from getting hit again, along with a sign that states 'Smile, you are being watched" or something to that effect.

Good idea. lol I should have done that when our other neighbors came and stole our chickens *face plant*

We literally have the neighbors from the bowels of hell over here. About 4 years ago, we were forced to put surveillance cameras up because of some of the things they were doing. The neighbor across the street put hers up about a year ago. As soon as we put the cameras up, much of the crap they were doing stopped. Then they focused on the lady across from us....but now that she has cameras, they've just resorted to the off-property harassment like horn honking and adding very loud after-market exhaust to every vehicle they own. We have a sign on our mailbox post that says we have cameras recording 24/7. I forgot what online store I got it from, but it's great. Cameras are the way to go-and being able to keep an eye on the coop, night and day, is almost priceless after what it took to build it and raise the birds that call it home.

That's just appalling that someone would do that. And the person that was stealing fruit from all the neighbors. It's amazing what people would steal, just nuts. I have some semi-related stories.

We occasionally have garbage cans that disappear overnight.

My parents recently told me that about 20 years ago they were having problems with the neighbor's kid siphoning gas from their cars. They'd hear stuff like a can being set down outside in the middle of the night, and the next day their gas gauges suddenly showed a lot less gas in the tanks.

Last year, (2013). No joke, I brought a 5 gallon fish tank outside to clean so that I could have fish in it again as it had been a few years since I used it (btw I had this tank for at least 12 years). I figured it'd be easier to do it outside, it wasn't heavy. Anyway, I decided to leave it out overnight and just bring it in the next day, it was late and I felt lazy, (I live in a rural area, so usually I don't have to worry about things getting stolen or whatever). I went outside the next day and looked at the table I had it on, and it was gone. Just flat out gone. I know I left it there, but I checked other places anyway, and it was no where to be found. Someone freaking stole my fish tank overnight!!! I just don't get it... Why steal that? The reason why this story in particular is related, is because the tank was on a table next to where I keep my birds. I'm surprised they didn't bother with my birds. Usually my ducks start quacking when they hear someone. So either my birds were sleeping to the point where they didn't hear them go into my backyard or possibly the birds scared them off, my female ducks can quack very loudly. Or they didn't care about the birds. But this made me really paranoid that someone really could bother my birds if they wanted to, so I'm on alert and I'm definitely getting cameras in the near future. I've got a game camera but someone could just steal that if they spotted it. Evidence gone, as well as the camera.

Anyway, my advice for best security:
Cameras! More the merrier.
Fences, and gates too.
Locks!
Automatic Chicken Doors against predators.
Electric Fences might be a good idea too.

Also if you don't want it stolen, try not to leave it outside lol. I've had shovels and fishing nets disappear as well. Usually I don't have to worry about putting those things away but once in a blue moon stuff disappears never to be seen again.

Cameras are a huge must.

You think THAT is bad...
Our neighbors STOLE our chickens... went out and STOLE a hen and all her babies...

We've been trying to steal them back for years...
Though it shouldn't be considered stealing! They stole them first from us!

THE NERVE! At least the guy stole EGGS. This family stole our birds, chicks and all!
In the dead of night when they were sleeping as well as chasing them around in the day time by trapping them I am sure (luring)
Have you had any luck getting them back yet?

That is just wrong of your neighbor! Where do people think they can get off stealing from others without fear or retribution? I have a neighbor here in town that has, over the last year or so, been isolating themselves from everyone in town. Now, we don't have a big town, just 50 people, but in one summer he managed to alienate nearly the entire town. Something is wrong with him in the head, and now we all avoid him. But he thinks nothing of walking into other peoples' yards and stealing fruit off their trees. He doesn't ask, and he does it in broad daylight. Currently I do not have fruit trees, but I am planting some this Spring, and I'm not planting very many, so if he decides to come into my yard to steal my fruit, he'd be able to take most of it in one shot! A lot of people in town grow their own food, and even more have fruit trees in their yards. One neighbor is a lovely older lady that lives with her husband about a block down from me. I love chatting with her in the summers. Well, she owns her property as well as another lot across the street and sort of catty corner from her house, but visible from her house. On that lot she has a lot of different kinds of trees, her favorite being these trees that grow these tiny little peaches on them that have white flesh and are very delicious. She gave me and my kids permission to pick them summer before last (none grew last summer cause of the cold snap the winter before), and I was respectful. The trees were abundant, but I took enough to eat, and knowing I had permission to go back if we wanted some more, I didn't take more than say, a WalMart bag full (they are REALLY tiny, could almost eat one in a single bite!). Well, she's the only person in town that has these peaches. Before the weird neighbor was alienating himself, he approached me as I was taking a walk with my kids one afternoon and had bags of the little peaches and asked me if I wanted some! I was surprised, but declined. I then walked down to my neighbor's house and asked her if she had given him permission to pick her peaches. She had not, so I told her what he had just done. She was furious. He also takes all the black raspberries from the bush she grows on that same lot, and he takes apples from my next door neighbor's ONLY apple tree, and I believe he takes peaches from his next door neighbor too. Oh, and the lady that lives next door to the church, he takes her pears. He's a jerk that has caused a lot of problems for a lot of neighbors. Some people are just...oh, what's the word I'm looking for, selfish? Greedy? I don't know if those words are right, but they describe part of his problem. Anyway, I'm planting cherry and apricot trees as well as blueberry, raspberry, strawberry and cherry bushes (yes, there is a cherry bush, blooms each year and has LOTS of cherries on it), and I don't quite know where to put the trees, except in my living room, where I can guarantee he won't touch them. Maybe I'll chain my big old Chow mix girl to the tree during the day. I'm considering getting a dummy camera and positioning it in plain view to deter him. I'm also going to put out a sign on my trees that state clearly, unless I give you permission to pick fruit from my trees, then keep your greedy paws off them! I am getting some Blue Spruce trees too, so maybe if I plant those to block his view of my house (he lives catty corner from my house) then he won't be able to see my fruit trees. Until I get electric fencing. I'd like to see him climb THAT to pick my fruit!
