Guillotine Door Size

My question, though, is how small can I get away with the door opening being?

My pop door is 9"x12" and can accommodate all this birds with no problem. I would suggest raising the door up around 8" to 12" from the floor to avoid your litter from clogging the threshold of the door. Mine is a guillotine style door and it opens and closes with just heavy whipper sniper line no pulleys involved through a small hole drilled above the door about 5 feet..

My coop is already 2.5 feet off the ground; if I put the door 8+ inches off the floor of the coop, do I need to make my ramp go all the way up to the door opening and would they need a ramp on the inside of the coop, too?

If you plan to put any amount of litter on your floor that will reduce the hight up to the door from the inside especially if you are subject to cold winters and plan to use the deep litter method in your coop. Chickens can hop up a foot easily with little effort is my experience making a ramp in the inside not necessary.

A good rule of thumb in a perfect world:
Make your ramp twice as long as the drop which would give you a 6/12 pitch and an angle of 22.5º.
"A 4x4 or block or some what higher attached to the end of your ramp to make a step up will do a lot to reduce the slope also." (These are mere suggestions and may not be practical with your set up.)
