Guinea Colors - Breeding

I have a pair of greys who’s keets are 4 greys & 1 white. The adults seem to be shunning & sometimes they drive off the white keet. The keets are now 12 weeks old. Is this normal behavior?
The adults appeared last summer with a flock of 12 and were wild as far as we could tell. Only the 2 adults survived the coyotes & the cars and now have there own family group. They roost in the trees at night, but stay in the yard or on the property during the day.

It is not uncommon for guineas to pick on one particular guinea especially if the guinea in question is a different color than the others.

Hey @R2elk, if you breed two lavender guineas together that are JUST lavender, no other recessive genes, all the keets are lavender, right?

Some people are trying to tell someone that two lavenders bred together can yield other colors and doesn't result in 100% lavender, and I'm trying to tell them that that's not possible unless the parents are carrying other recessive genes like brown.

The other people are being so insistent I'm starting to doubt myself, lol. This is not on BYC, by the way.

If both Lavenders are homozygous for blue and full dotting, the only way they can produce anything other than Lavender is by a mutation and you cannot predict what color a mutation will cause.

Because blue is a recessive gene, it cannot be hiding a dominant gene like gray. Because full dotting is a dominant gene it can be hiding the recessive partial dotting or the no dotting gene.

I have a Lavender hen that I know because of breeding results has a full dotting gene and a partial dotting gene. When paired with her Coral Blue mate that has a partial dotting and a no dotting gene, she has produced both Lavender and Coral Blue offspring. These are the only color combinations these two can produce.

Perhaps those people have gotten hold of one of the two guinea color calculators. If so both of those color calculators are inaccurate and have no value in trying to predict guinea colors.

Good luck.

Thank you, that is exactly what I thought. People are in there telling the OP that guineas never breed true and other stuff like that. And they deleted my dissenting post. So I give up on that, lol. But it's good to know I was on the right track.

Hey guys I just now decided to incubate my guinea eggs! I'd love to know the colors they'll be! Male is Coral Blue and female is White! All replies will be greatly appreciated!

They should come out pied coral blue. There is no way to know what colors the white guinea is suppressing so the results could be anything but that they should all be pied.
