So I decided to let one of our hens (Fluffy) brood on a couple guinea eggs.
But of course when she was a week in, Fluffy became uninterested and stoped being broody.:barnie
We don't have a working incubator right now, but thankfully I had another broody hen.
So I put those little eggs underneath the new mama (Honey) .

The long and short of it it that there was a LOT of chicken drama, plus a mite outbreak.
Well, this morning I woke up to see that one of the eggs had gotten push out of the nesting box.

What scared me was that it was piping and had started to hatch. (Also, Honey refused to get back on her nest) 😩

So I brought the little thing inside to check for damage, while my brother finally got that broody to sit on the other egg.

I wanted to make sure she would be alright before I put her back with mama.
Since the membrane was exposed to air for so long, I was worried it would dry to her skin. So I nestled the egg in a warm to towel, with a somewhat wet washcloth in-between that and a heating pad set to low.
I know it not ideal, but it was the best thing at the moment. 😅

I sat there with her for about 10 minutes, wetting the exposed membrane with a tiny paintbrush.
Eventually she got her strength back and started hatching again!
:ya
About 30 minutes later, she was completely hatched and sleeping her the towel nest.

We set up mama Honey in a special open air rabbit crate, all made up for chicks.
Then I put our new chick back with mama.

I'm really hoping for the best, but
Oh my goodness y'all! What an exciting morning!!
