I'm just starting this, snagged a previously owned copy (great way to get books).
"The male has a larger comb (is that what they call it!), longer wattles (debated)"but what caught my attention was "the white kid covering extends lower on his neck than the female's." And ofcourse, "when aroused, he raises his wings an inch or two and runs on his toes." 🤦‍♀️ I've got to check their necks now...but I think the brown's neck is all dark.

Surely they mean the back of the neck, bc

IF it's true, they must mean from the sides. My girls' white stop roughly where our jaw bone is but my boys' are of varying lengths. But to be honest, so far there's a lot of emperical data that we'd dispute now.
Yeah. I’m not seeing a big difference between the males and females with the white down the sides. Some males it’s longer, others shorter. Same for the females.
