Guinea Garden Solutions Needed~ Pics & New Info Added

Here’s a diagram of Guineapolis. It’s not drawn to scale, but it’s fairly close. I’d take some pics of the whole compound, but it’s currently draped with agricultural fabric to protect our plants from this record heat!

LOL Jill... Great pics! I think you pegged it right when you said you may have mutant freaks... or just plain old ornery brats! That is a very well thought out and protected garden, and Guinea set up, I can't believe they did so much damage. You've done just about everything you can, they are just buttheads!

Sorry if I came across as cranky with my previous reply... I absolutely adore my Guineas and just hate it when I see other Guineas getting a bad rap about anything (which they do a lot). Hope you understand

First, I have just got to say that I have been more than pleased at my Guineas' garden manners. The worst they do is drop and dust in the garden. No scratching or eating of the goods. Can't say the same for my beloved chickens.

Cadillac Jill....I don't have a solution for you.....so I am just sitting back laughing.....you're a riot. Hope you figure out solutions....but in the meantime, thanks for the fabulous sense of humor.

cadillac jill, great pics. and no i don't think you have the corner on 'mutant' guineas. i have to add, whenever i hear anyone talking about fence heights or barriers for guineas, i hear Diana Ross and the supremes singing -- Ain't No Mountain High Enough''''''''

from one gardener to another... and as a new guinea owner, I must say.... Thanks for the warning... errr... uh... I mean tips.

Thanks again for your support and for sharing in the humor of the situation with me! Peeps--no offense taken. I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it myself. Okdfarms--I hear that same song! The only time our guineas can't fly over a fence is when it would make my life easier--LOL.

These guys are mischievous, but they have the sweetest dispositions and are very entertaining. I love to watch them forage or take dust baths, and the sight of them running to me when I shake the millet cups is priceless. But since they don't seem to be a good fit for our garden, we're planning to rehome them and possibly try again next season with different keets. I hate not being able to use the guinea compound after all that work and I'll definitely miss the birds, but at some point you just have to admit that it's not working.

I'll still be frequenting the forum so I can keep tabs on what others are trying, and maybe if we regroup we'll be armed with new and better methods.
