Yesterday we came home to a random adult guinea hen hanging out with our chicken flock - 24 free range w/ roos.

The chickens seem leary but the guinea is persistent. Tried to roost in their coop, but we didn't allow that, so it slept it a tree beside their coop & hung out with them all day today.

We think it has escaped from someone's flock but haven't been able to find its owner.

Don't know anything about guinea fowl so any tips or things to watch out for would be greatly appreciated!

At this time of year a lone guinea showing up is usually a male. It normally happens because their mate has been taken by a predator from her hidden nest.

If you can capture the guinea, the best thing to do is try to rehome it to someone who has guineas. One method of capture is to bait a live trap with feed.

Thanks. We're going to try that. The darn thing is quite fast.
