Hi,
So here is the scenario:
We have a flock of guineas, hatched Feb 26th2015. They JUST started laying eggs within the last week and at about the same time ( at least a week, maybe a bit longer) one of the guineas started limping. This progressed over a few days into now, not walking at all. She mostly propels herself forward by using her wings like oars. The other day, while trying to catch her, she got so freaked that she did walk, but her tail was drooping really low. Anyways, I didn't see any injury, break, infected scratch or such on her legs. Then I kept her inside a dog crate for a night , thinking in the morning I would check to see if she is egg bound. Popped an egg out this morning, so I doubt it is that ( even though, it was one of those odd shellless, soft eggs). She behaves completely normal , eats, drinks, poops, but can't walk. Her eyes are alert and open and clear. No odd breathing. She is the only one with these symptoms - none of the other guineas or chickens are ill.
The guineas free range, and even though they have access to a coop, prefer to roost in trees. I just started feeding them manna pro organic layer feed, they have access to water at all times.
Hmmmm, I think that is all the info I can give you - any ideas what could be wrong with her? Or will she just be my coop bound sitting guinea?

Sounds like your hen has a bad case of calcium deficiency. You need to offer laying hens free choice oyster shell. For your hen that can't walk you should see if your local pet store carries a calcium additive that you can add to her water in order to get the calcium into her system faster. Something like this should work:

Ok, will buy something like this today and hope it helps her. I guess I wasn't ready for them to be laying already. First time fowl owner here and I didn't expect eggs till September or so. So, is oyster shell preferred over crushed eggshells? Thanks for your input
