Help....I have washed it's head injury down with some warm water (about a .05% peroxide solution) and saline. We used Vetricyn on the wounds and gave it about 2ml by mouth along with some electrolyte solution to try to hydrate it to help with some of the blood loss. She is alive and is just wanting to snuggle and rest (understandable). I would like to give her some antibiotics any ideas?? Novobiocin? penicillin? Erythromycin? My vet is not avian or exotic so he usually says "eat them" and I figure out what to do and he gets me the meds. OMG....I am freakin out, she just hatched her keets out and ....good lord! Any ideas...suggestions....HELP!!!!!!

Let her rest in a dim, quiet place for the rest of today. Do not give antibiotics unless she has an infection. Try giving her some sugar water. She may show more interest in it than plain water.

Let us know how she is later.

she is moving around and sqwaking a bit. Head looks horrible, her eyes are swollen shut but she is looking better than she should. Mouth is open ??? she swallows whatever we give her, heard a little girgling earlier but she had lots of blood everywhere so I washed her mouth out and drained it (I am a people nurse) to clear her airway. she is doing better, I think-but who knows. Keep the prayers and great advice rolling. Oh and I gave her the aspirin in some electrolyte solution and that seemed to really calm her. Thanks alot!!!

if she gets an infection i have had good results with a direct injection of Tylan 50 or LA200, they are cattle antibiotics and you can get them at the feed store, and little known fact but legally a pharmacy has to sell you a syringe if you say its for livestock., but if your a nurse i dont see this as an issue. I got a whole bunch so I dont have to explain it every time a bird is sick, but LA200 is thicker like syrup and needs a bigger needle. I'd do maybe .8cc of LA200 or .5-1cc of tylan 50 depending on size of bird. Injections work much faster than oral meds. I just pull the skin up behind the neck and inject it just under the skin, or sometimes in the breast, but back of neck is often easier. Stiptic powder is used to help stop bleeding if she is bleeding, can be found at most pet stores. Only giver antibiotics if the wounds feel hot to the touch, and are becoming infected, otherwise they do a good job healing on their own
