Guinea Keets have arrived from JM Hatchery

I LOVE FRENCH GUINEAS! I tryed to order some from Ideal Poultry, but it wouldn't let me enter my credit card number so I couldn't order them so I tryed calling them but they had already closed. So then I emailed them and got a reply to call and order them. But then I tryed to call a breeder that might have some but his number didn't work, so I called a friend and she got it for me and he is going to make me a good deal with alot of colors. But he won't have them until April or the first of May ... long wait.

Those are good birds. You won't believe how fast they grow! Mine are about 3 weeks and are flying and perching and running around in a cool shed ignoring their heat lamp most of the day. All of mine survived. They will go crazy for tiny pieces or meat or fish. I'm not sure if its good for them but they really like it. I'd spend time hand feeding them and talking to them. They will get a lot more flighty than baby chickens. Enjoy!

How fun, I plan to take a picture of them each week to chart their growth. They have all settled down nicely for the evening. All look healthy. I am very please with my keets from JM Hatchery.

Can't wait for more pics ...

I've read a lot of sites that say to use white millet as a hand-fed treat to tame them down. I don't think meat or fish would hurt them, they live off insects when they can get them

The guineas are a week old now. Haven't lost a single one, they are very healthy. Funny little guys, much more jumpy than chicks. Just getting their first feathers and growing amazingly quick.

I got French pearl guineas from JM also (nice people). If I had only a handful maybe hand feeding would have been easy. But with thirty, they were just all over the place (skittish!). And guineas suffer from group think. What one does, they all do, especially getting excited. Mine would not touch anything other than their gamebird rations until they were about 10 weeks old. I tried millet and other bird seed blend to no avail. Then one day after finding their feeder empty I threw them and the chicks they live with some bird seed and the went bananas over it. I still can't get them to take bugs or mealworms ( the chicks bet them to it anyway). But now that they are free ranging I am sure they are getting some bugs. They sure love the grasses and flowering weeds.
