Guinea wanders into yard.... seems to like us....

I saw a photo of a guinea / naked-neck chicken cross on another forum. If Stephen King ever writes a story about poultry, this would be the bird that terrorizes the populace.

This is a Guinea/chicken hybrid.

I was wondering what mine would look like if the RIR roo was successful in mating with one of the guineas... Now I know I need to be extra vigilant in gathering those eggs! That is one STRANGE looking bird...

Some of the funniest stories I have ever read are from people who have had Guineas turn up at their farm/home and adopt them. It usually starts with "the strangest sound was outside my window...."

Oh they make me laugh, the loud little buggers.

It would make me laugh too...if it wasn't MY Guineas! A dog killed a bunch and the rest went over to the neighbor's. A flock of 12 stayed there and I caught 5 to add back to the two that stayed. A flock of 15 or so came by the neighbor's on occasion but then disappeared. Months earlier I had 13 only to come home to find 6. I guess when they get startled they just up and move on. I did have a flock of someone else's guineas come through but instead of adding them to MY flock, they took mine off to live with the neighbor's. That was the FIRST time...and it happened AGAIN! So, I've got 7 locked in their coop and I'm afraid to let them out with 7 at the neighbor's. I still lost 7 that left a long time ago and that flock of 15 or so that left much later. I'd say that you can't free range guineas but apparently my neighbor does and has no problems with losing birds...is flock is increasing! He's got about 40+ and I'm down to 7.
