Guineas all took off, only one came back

I did try that and he is still caged. It is a large cage in the large coop, nothing yet. I spent all day in the corn field and the woods and unfortunately I found one that didn't make it, a coyote got it. I was so upset, but I was more determined to find the rest.. Only one that came home, but no new ones and the one at the neighbors they are going to keep him because I cannot catch him. They said they will try to get him by putting food and water in the garage. I am lucky to have understanding neighbors.

what about posting a lost notice on craigslist? It works for dogs and cats. There's probably people wondering what the h*ll kind of bird is in their tree right now.

Sorry to ear that. How far away are your neighbors? If you remeber where you found the dead guinea and where the neighbors are it will give you an idea of where they went.

Great idea watchdogps, I didn't even think of craigs list for lost and found. I only have a few people around me and mostly farmers, so I put the word out that I lost them. They weren't too happy to hear there were birds out in there crops. I reasured them that they will not notice any crop damage from them, I haven't had them damage anything in my yard and they ate the bugs mostly.

9farmgirl I found the one guinea died by the creek north of my house and my neighbor north of me is the ones who found one, so he must have crossed the creek to get to them. I walked the creek line and in the corn field calling them in. I didn't hear them or see them in the trees. The farmers are cutting the wheat fields now, which is down aways but I thought I would go down and see if I could see them around there. I do have some of their babies, so I put them into a cage and walked around with them thinking they may hear them and come running, but nope.

damselfish, Thank you I hope so. I just feel awful. They depended on me to keep them safe I feel I failed. I mean I live in the country and there is peditors every where and I've lost animals to them here and there and I know it happens. This time with the storm I just picture them wandering around lost and scared. I raised them from babies and they were my first ones and I had wanted them for a long time and bought them at a day old. I have chickens, turkeys, peacocks and my guineas and this is the first time anything took off and they don't go far they always come back to roost or for feeding time. They see me and run towards me to eat.

I am going to keep looking and hopefully they will come home. Even if someone calls me that they found them I don't know how to catch them. Chickens and turkeys are easy to catch, but guineas are tricky little things. They can fly pretty good. I can hand feed my chickens and turkeys, they come right up to me and I can pick them up, guineas no way. I have started letting my hens hatch them out, so I will see if that helps.

Another one came home this morning, I was woke up by a lot of noise of the two talking. I ran outside and out of the corn came another male, running towards me, and I opened the pin door and in he jumped.

Now if some of my females would come home. There is still hope if he made it home.

I would just wait a little bit and see if anyone reports them. In the meantime keep the word out about them. maybe even post some signs in the local feed stores and such.
I would NOT walk around calling or having the keets, as by the time they decided to come, you would be away from there. That may just keep them on the move. Go looking, but dont call.

Oh, I might have confused them my calling them.. I will let the ones here at home call them in and post at the local feed mill. I know the guy up there and will put a post up and tell him about my guineas.

Another tip - people might not know what a guinea is, so put on your flyer something like "bald headed chicken sized bird" or some kind of descriptive - in large letters.
I know when I have had dogs get out, I don't say "schipperke" I say "small black dog no tail" or for Anatolian "large shepherd type dog"
You must cater to the least intelligent people.
