Guineas and noise

I like their sound too, and I don't think it is as loud as a dog. I love the way they look when they are running toward me. There is just something about them I really like.

We have close neighbors and I ask every once in a while is my birds bother them and they always say no. I think they think it's funny the way they go nuts if the neighbors dog is out.

I love their sound too.. I'm seriously considering them despite the neighbors and no fence, lol. My grandma use to have some and she loved them, even more than her chickens (which is saying something since she's a chicken lady!) so maybe I'll just have to get a few and see how it goes

I've only owned guineas for a few months now, but they've certainly grown on me. I have 6 that are roughly 6 months old now, I think. They're surprisingly quieter than I was expecting. Yes, they do break out in song every once in awhile, but that usually stops once I clap my hands and scold the boys or make a sound that they're not familiar with. I kept them locked in for the first two months, but now they're allowed to free range with the chickens on the weekends. They do not wander far away and tend to stick with the chickens in the wooded area near their coop. The few times they've gone where they don't belong is because they were following Rebel (leghorn who has earned her name). They learned very quickly that when I clap my hands and yell "Chickens in", it's time to run inside and get some treats. Overall, it's been very pleasant having them.

Oh yeah, I have two neighbors that can see the coop and I haven't received any complaints. The roosters a couple streets over far surpass any noise my roos or guineas make.

Uh oh!

My neighbors are going to hate me in a couple of weeks!

I got a batch of 6 two springs ago, and really they have been relatively quiet all their lives unless something is REALLY going on.

Then I got another 3 from some guy thats local last spring and one hen NEVER shuts up. She screams all day. All night. At nothing. At anything. She has screamed since a wee baby ever since I put her outside. Our handyman made the comment that he likes to come to the country for the "quiet" and that she would have been dinner long ago. I dont know why. She has settled down a wee bit since she is a year old now, which means she only screams about 20 hours out of 24. Even the other guinea hens get tired of her. I witnessed her a hollering away and finally my white hen pecked her in the head like she was saying "shut UP already!".

Maybe she secretly envisions herself coming back into the house, cuz when a wee baby under the heatlamp in the house, she didnt peep a word.

Yep...how many you got?

I ordered two before I knew how noisy the are. Someone told me they would help with my hawk problem. Then I listened to them on YouTube.
