Guinea's are good watch dogs for chickens. When a hawk or bald eagle fly over, the guineas sqwak like crazy and both chickens and guineas head for the trees.
Last night I forgot to shut the coop at sundown, so we went back out around 8. One coop door was closed part way (birds must have knocked it over). The other door was open...but the guineas were all packed against the closed door. You would think they would just use the other door, they have no problem going out that door. DH & I tried to get them in. I was able to "catch" a few and shove them towards the door (which I opened), the rest sat on top of the coop and sqwaked. Even two hours later, they were still on the roof. It was -6F last night and I left the coop open, incase they got smart (not a chance)
I actually don't mind them roosting in the trees. It sure beats cleaning poop out of the coop
