You're on the right track now!

Use the chords and scales that you learn to play along to your favourite tracks and listen to rhythm as well as lead.

I still think that some lessons would benefit you. My teachers have given me tips that were not in the books and made things much clearer. They can see your mistakes and correct them with you too. After that, the books helped me ore than previously.

When you have you electric guitar, learn the Intro. the Hey Joe (the Hendrix version of course). That will make you feel really good!

If you like reading and also the guitar ..I'm reading a very good book now about a girl that plays the guitar ..its kinda a historical fiction about the french revolution and some great composer of that time era. But a good book. Lots of guitar info in it.

As far as lessons go, my best friend plays guitar, and she's willing to help me with anything I need. She got me interesting in playing actually!
Besides her, I have [at the top of my head] at least 6 other friends who play [several are REALLY good, and can play stuff like that insane solo in Sweet Child O' Mine] that are also will to help me if I have any questions, etc. Thanks!

I'm a newbie too. I've been playing for about 3 1/2 weeks. I am teaching myself on the internet. I developed the callouses very quickly, and within the first week, i couldn't even feel it anymore. But then again, I played it for hours or until I bled...

I got impatient though because I wanted to learn to shred right away, and I thought there was something wrong with ME. I was about to give up until my mom told me that it takes years to get good. Just keep at it, though. It is really fun.

Dont play the guitar but my nephew designs, makes and sells guitars as a hobby check out his myspace page for some really beautiful guitars. Hes in the process of building a website but it isnt complete yet.
