Gun Owners and Non-Gun Owners should come to a Meeting of the Minds

You're joking, right? Just because military service is not your cup of tea, would you seriously deny every other woman in American the right to make that choice for herself? Remember, now, that we have an all volunteer military. Nobody serves who does not choose to serve. You surely cannot mean that someone should not be allowed to serve her country just because of which genitalia she was born with!

Same thing goes for combat. It's no different than wanting to be a cop. Thousands of women serve their communities as cops. They risk their lives every day to protect their families and friends from harm. So why should a woman not be allowed to choose a combat role in the military and serve her entire country the way she serves her own community?

Heck, I'm a guy and even *I* can see how chauvinistic your statement is.

I think that what you are really saying is that the idea of military service scares you. Nothing wrong with that. But it does not automatically follow that it scares ALL women or we would not have so many female cops patrolling our streets. I'll bet if you think about it, you'll see the logic of this. Women should be shown the same respect for their desire to serve as guys are and be allowed to choose for themselves if they will serve.

Rusty

I did just fine in the Marines. Women do just fine in the military. We are analytical, good strategists, and just as good at marksmanship as men. I went on the same runs with the men. I shot the same type M-16 on the same rifle range. I trained in the same gas chambers, obstacle courses and equipment. I did the same training missions and went out into the ocean on the same amphibious vehicles and and swam back 500 yards in full camaflague uniform with a pack weighing just as much as the men's. If young girls are brought up taught that they are unable or weak, that's exactly what they will be. The same goes for boys too BTW.

That's the first I have heard that. Most I've heard is the banning of certain kinds of guns, but not guns entirely.

I think people who think they will ever lose the right to own some kind of firearm are overreacting. It will never happen, whether the recent SCOTUS decision is reversed (as it should be) or not.

Do you understand that under the law that they attempted to get through the last time you would have to give up that shiny new Ruger you just bought?

Maybe it's changed. In fact, it probably has. When I went to jump school in the 70s, we had one of the first contingents of women in our class. They would usher them in when we were doing the actual jump training stuff, but ushered them right back out as soon as the rough stuff started.

But point taken. It isn't that hard to fire a gun, and endurance is probably the single most important aspect of field combat. I have long felt women belong in the battlefield right alongside men.

Course, I feel the same way about gays in the military, but that's a whole 'nother discussion.

I wasn't aware my Ruger was considered a hand gun.

But my Ruger is for critters. If I wanted an effective weapon for home protection, it would be a shotgun. Pump action one. That sound of chambering a round is plenty of deterrent for most folks.

As an aside, studies have actually been done on that. That sound had a greater fear effect than even a gun going off.

How very, very true.

Yes it is true, just look at what happened last November due to propaganda. And look at who is responsible "And it's not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion".

Yeah, some of my friends on the left are considering getting guns for just that reason. Figure if there is going to be a civil war they don't want to be caught unarmed.

We'd be seriously out gunned and outmatched, though. Most lefty types couldn't shoot their way out of a paper bag.
