I don't trust all cops. They are plenty of them that don't need guns....like the one that shot my FIL in the back of the head for not stopping on a dirt road going slow enough the officer to catch him on foot. They had already been advised that my FIL was unarmed and crying due from his wife of 25yrs. just left him. SOooo what does one bright trigger happy cop do? Fires 7 rounds into the back of his truck...never once aimed at the tire. Then they begged him to sign a paper that released the county from any liablility from this incident. He had 5 lawyers call him up wanting to take this case and told him he could get millions from this. My FIL is a forgiving man and signed the paper and said he forgave them for what they did, he was just glad to be alive! They were so lucky - I could be sittin pretty but I would much rather have my FIL around, who is hands down, the best grandfather I have ever seen in my life. Not to mention best father to my DH and a good man in general. SO....don't always depend on the police to protect ya

...OH, and on the same police force here one officer shot a black man in the face while he was HANDCUFFED behind his back!

I agree with Reinbeau,
When we start to allow, "little" changes in the writing of the 2cd amendment, where does it stop?
Every American "non felon" has the God given right to own and bare arms, for what ever reason, hunting, shooting sports, personal protection, or to just lay in a gun cabinet to say you have one, doesn't matter!
I owned my first gun at the ripe ol age of 5, killed my first deer by 10 ( by myself, no adult anywhere) Education is the key here, I was raised around them all my life. Start your kids off with all the needed knowledge of proper gun ownership and usage, if you aren't sure, contact you local game management authorities, they have classes to teach both the young and old.
But to ban the right to own any type of fire arm in this country is unconstitutional, period.
Now with respect to the low lifes that use them to commit crimes, that where our judicial system news serious improvements. Lock the jokers up!!!! No slap on the wrist and let them do it again, Put them in Jail, If they kill some one, why that's why we have the death penalty.
But to take away honest Americans rights and privileges due to these morons, is highly uncalled for.
One more point I'd like to make. From what I have seen, the vast majority of gun ban supporters, are people who quite honestly have never even seen or held a gun, live in the big cities where their only knowledge of guns, are those used by criminals.
Folks please educate yourself, and know what all is involved.
Case in point, saw an episode on "No Reservations" on the Travel Channel the other day, Anthony Bordain (the host) Is very pro gun control, but he went to Ted Nugent's ranch in Texas, and was pretty much made to shoot some guns by Ted, and before it was over, the guy was having a BLAST with them, even was shooting full auto machine guns and I think even an M-60, and completely changed his out look on guns.

Well that's my 2 cents worth, Thanks

The whole idea of our fore-fathers giving us the right to bear arms to protect ourselves against a tyrannical government is starting to play out right now . . . many people have changed their minds about the current administration over the last month or so as they see socialism/communism usher in. Many more are in denial.

That’s why our current “government” is trying so hard to take our guns away, take our free speech away, take our rights away as conservatives . . . it’s all coming to a head and we have a long battle ahead if we even choose to fight it:(

I wish folks would stop correllating "liberal" with "gun-control". I live out in the country, in the south, I'm liberal on most social issues, conservative on most economic issues and PRO-gun. And an atheist! So...HA!

I've met very few people in my lifetime who fall neatly into one category or the other.

Oh, and I forgot who said it earlier (apologies) but saying you keep a gun because you want the ability to protect yourself sounds perfectly reasonable to me too!

I have to agree that being a liberal or conservative does not even correlate to republican or democrat, with a mind of their own who can make informed decisions without them being made for them. It is the sheeple that are the problem, and there appears to be more sheeple than folks able to make informed decisions at this time.

Well, if you could find me a group of people within the 'conservative' range who are pro gun-control I'll stop equating the issue with liberal politics. See, you live in the country, and gun control isn't as big of an issue in the country - it's more of a city issue, and the hue and cry for more gun control is usually made by liberal politicians and community activists (hmmmm) who can't control the criminals within their limits, so they want to control everyone. They call them illegal guns, but it's really criminals who are still out on the street committing more and more crimes that are doing the killing - with whatever is at their disposal.

By the way - you sound like a pretty independent conservative to me. That's what I am, although I'm more of a conservative independent. And I'm a Pantheist

We own many guns and I personally keep a 9mm for myself. With that being said ~ I'd rather see more energy being directed towards people who drive drunk and kill.
