Well, no it wasn't. It was created to defend against an invading army.

So, when The People is used in the other amendments, it's an individual, but in the Second, it's a group? Sorry, it doesn't work that way. It was written to protect individual rights, and the Supreme Court affirmed that last year in the ruling over Washington, DC's handgun laws.

If you read other writings by people like Thomas Jefferson and Ben Franklin you would realize that it was written for protection against oppressive government also. Yes, we can agree to disagree, but my tolerance of somebody else's opposing opinion stops when that person supports action to take away my rights. Sorry. JMHO

Back to guns...

The bad guys / good guys thing is always an aspect of this discussion. In my oh-so-humble opinion, there is far too little discussion of how the bad guys get their guns. What do you folks think? How do the bad guys get them? For the most part, they are a legally manufactured product, sold through legally authorized distributors (right?). I find it really unsettleing that the companies that lobby for the rights of solid citizens must surely profit from providing their product to ALL gun owners (good & bad).

Neither should they be called ignorant or uneducated.

Being called "uneducated" doesn't necessarily mean something negative. I consider myself "uneducated" when it comes to chickens. That's why I'm here....trying to learn. Being uneducated to me just means this is an area I need to learn more about, I don't really know the facts....it doesn't mean I'm stupid and it also doesn't necessarily mean I don't have an opinion but I look at that opinion and try to decide where it comes from....past upbringing, rumor, facts, etc. I may have a strong opinion about chickens. That opinion might have started out that chickens are dirty and disease carrying livestock. But then I educate myself and find that chickens are neither if cared for properly.

By the way.....I really never had that opinion of chickens!!
