Is the gun on you loaded? I would hope not....that I would find very stupid. I just feel like it's so easy for accidents to happen

.

I can't think of anything more useless than an unloaded gun! I don't have a carry permit but have thought about getting one. I do keep a loaded weapon in my home ever since there was a home invasion robbery about a mile from me. I can't imagine that a would be robber would wait for me to unlock & load my 9mm carbine so I keep a loaded magazine in the weapon-I do keep the chamber empty-doesn't take long to pull the bolt back.
The notion that gun rights & car rights somehow equate is nonsense. Owning a car is a privelage-owning a gun is a right protected by the constitution. If you read the 2nd ammendment in the context of the times it's clear that it is primarily for us to protect ourselves from a tyranical govern ment. Look what has happened in places where the government took away the right to own a gun-Nazi Germany is only one example. The way our current administration is assaulting the constitution makes me think the 2nd ammendment is all the more precious.

This is an interesting topic that does bring much debate and controversy in our society. I am sorry it this gets boring or too long but I can tell you first hand about guns in the right or wrong hands. I am 41yrs old and was raised with guns in the house. My Father was an avid sportsman who always hunted and taught myself and my brother about guns and hunting. He also owned a sporting goods store and sold firearms, So that said guns were almost an everyday word or occurance in our home.
13yrs ago i was working at my fathers house (we trained a few horses) when he left to go to work About 1 hr after he had left I recieved a phone call telling me that he had been shot and killed in the store he owned. 3 KIDS belonging to a gang robbed and stole guns to supply their gang, I say kids because they were 13 and 14 yrs old. He was shot 3 times and died shortly after enroute to the hospital. All of this happend at around 12:eek:o noon in a downtown area with lots of people and bussiness. The Police station was also approximately 4miles away and the sherrifs dept just around the corner (less than a 1/2 mile).

I have no complaints about the law officers for as many have said they are scatterd thin and cant be everywhere. They also arrested the 3 individuals within a weeks time. I dont know this for fact but do believe that if he had been carrying a gun at the time the outcome would have been different and he would still be here to hunt with me and take 9 of his grandchildren hunting and fishing as well.

Yes, and people that think it's outdated should remember that even though they don't perceive any threat today of a tyranical government, it's impossible to know what the future will bring. Years from now there may be a real threat, and that ammendment will make all of the difference. People in Germany thought they were free too. Then the Nazi's were elected - yes, elected. They didn't take over by force. They were elected. They took away the guns and other rights, and look what happened. It has happened in different places around the world. The 2nd ammendment keeps it from happening here. The founding fathers were wise to add it. It will never be outdated.

Outdated? By your argument, the First Ammendment would also be outdated, right?

No, just the second. We don't have militias any more.

But since you bring up the First, I should suggest it is not an absolute right. We have all come to accept reasonable restrictions on that right, such as copyright and patent laws, slander, libel, and laws against obscenity and child pornography. There is no right to blab military secrets, either.

So, even if you believe the 2nd gives you the right to own guns, perhaps we can come to a "meeting of the minds" and agree that right is not an absolute one, and that reasonable restrictions should be allowed.

We may disagree on what constitutes a "reasonable restriction", but can we at least agree on that?
