Well, I have come a long way on this issue.

I did a paper in college that had a great impact on my way of thinking. Basically my findings were that if you had a gun in your house, you increased both:
Your chance of protecting your property.
Your chance of being killed by a gunshot.

At the time, in my simplistic way of thinking, I decided I would rather lose property than lose my life. But I never considered the fact that, in all probability, owning a car makes you more likely to die in a car accident. Owning a dryer makes it more likely that you will die in a house fire. (I haven't done the research on those two, I am just surmising.)

What I am saying is that I finally realized that it is not that simple.

Now I kinda feel bad about giving my ex husband so much grief about getting a gun.

Hardly, we are in more danger now than at any time in our past, but we will have to agree to dissagree on that. I am talking about the future. You don't know what kind of polital parties will be formed, what the current ones will morph into or who will be elected in 20 years.
