Glad you've joined the flock!
Hello.
I am an American living in Germany with my Italian/German husband and his parents. We are the proud guardians of nine Sussex chickens who are just over 6 weeks old today. First, I would like to say what a wealth of information we have gained from reading your questions and posts! Thank you all!
We started this process way back in April but have only recently reached the point to actually get our flock started. We took some of your advice and made some of our own calls, too. We've made some mistakes and had to backtrack and regroup a couple of times but whatever we did, it seems to be working. We picked them up when they were two days old and the young ladies; Laverne, Shirley, Loosey, Ethyl, Vera, Flo, Loretta, Dolly and Cha-Cha; all seem to be thriving. The people we got them from dropped off some vaccine for us the other day and remarked on how much bigger they are than the ones they kept.
I look forward to looking to you folks for your continuing advice, suggestions, experiences, etc. Have a safe and happy Holiday season!
I guess chickens here are supposed to be vaccinated fairly frequently. Mine are likely overprotected... there are only nine of them and they won't be mingling with other chickens or going to shows or anything like that. Better safe than sorry, though. It just goes in their water. Thanks for the warm welcome, EVERYONE!vaccine? Deutsch Huhner glad to have you here at Backyard Chickens
